Quest Touring Kayaks.Pakboats Quest is our newest family of skin-on-frame touring kayaks. Quests are extremely lightweight and easy to assemble – and they are a joy to paddle. The hull fabrics are coated or laminated with tough polyurethane for durability, and the polyurethane coatings contain no toxic chemicals, so the planet will thank you.Quests represent another advance in Pakboats’ hybrid folding/inflatable construction: Enhanced frame technology produces a stiff and light hull structure that makes assembly a breeze in combination with multiple flotation cells that tension the skin and provide buoyancy. The placement of buoyancy along each side is ideal for stability and safety. Other folding kayaks have internal thwarts to enhance rigidity. But thwarts break up the space inside the hull, and we found a better way. As the deck is installed, the hull is compressed slightly, so the deck is under side to-side-tension. In effect, the deck fills the thwarts' function. This also adds tension to the deck so it seals tightly over the gunwales. The deck seal is secured by end caps and “wrapovers” that are welded to the boat skin, sealing out splashing waves. The “wrapovers” also support the deck rigging. Quest decks can be opened at both ends for exceptionally easy loading of gear.Comfort starts with the seat, and the Quest seat is “best in class”. The fabric sling seat is supported front and back, completely eliminating pressure points, and the inflatable thigh support adjusts to fit any paddler. Back band and seat surface are covered with three dimensional mesh to provide ample air circulation. The seat drops into brackets on the hull frame, and the back band is permanently attached to the removable deck, so installing the seat during assembly takes almost no time. The simplicity and light weight make the Quests fit into a single compact storage bag, and they can easily go with you wherever your travels take you. Quest 155 At 15.5 ft (470 cm) the Quest 155 is a compact touring and travel kayak. Long enough for effortless cruising, and roomy enough to hold your over-night camping gear. It is an ideal travel companion when you need more than the smaller Quest can offer. The 155 is in its element when your travels cover many miles and hours of paddling. At the end of a long day you will send some grateful thoughts to the Quest's outstanding seat.Quest 135 The 13.5 ft (420 cm) Quest 135 is a “transitional” kayak – a long step up from typical recreational kayaks, yet lighter and more nimble than the larger sea kayaks. It is perfect for lighter paddlers who want a high-performance portable kayak. Of course, it really shines as a travel kayak. It packs into a compact bag complete with your paddling gear and can still be checked as a piece of airline baggage.
Pakboats XT – A super stiff structure supports long hulls and heavy loads XT kayaks are fast, and over-all paddling performance is exceptional. Structural I-beams built into the sides make a very stiff, yet lightweight frame structure. This lets us build long and efficient hulls with consistent rocker, and a multi-chine cross section further enhances performance. XT kayaks share the Quest's ample multi-chamber side flotation and the hulls are free of thwarts so space is unobstructed. The moderate depth of XT hulls minimizes wind effects and gets the gunwales out of the way of your hands for comfortable paddling – quite unlike heavy load haulers of yesteryear.
